I think that something as fancy as a gown that was reserved for special times might not have the wear and tear that a regular everyday gown would have and that it would look good still. Remember that they did not wash their fancy fabrics. The main area that would show wear would be right down the front where one might spill drink or food and maybe the hem. So it does seem reasonble to me. They also did not have the availability to fine fabrics the way we do.

I was just thinking about Elizabeth's Christmas gown and how accurate is it really to what she wears in "Felicity's Surprise." Now I don't have the book in front of me but I can clearly remember Elizabeth talking about how her mother was just going to sew a new stomacher into one of Annabelle's old gowns for her to wear. AG has obviously given Elizabeth a rich girl makeover and that seems out of place with her talking about wearing a hand me down gown for something as exciting as the Governor's ball.
And I haven't seen the new Felicity books yet but have they modified Elizabeth's dresses to be fancier in the pictures? Elizabeth and Annabelle's original dresses never struck me as fancy and Felicity's always seem prettier because hers often involved printed fabric.
What do you guys think?
